New VAM Variety
Obverse die 28 appears only once in VAM 42.
On the die the first 8 is slightly doubled on the surface at the top and right outside of the upper loop, and the left inside of both loops. There can be a slight doubling of right stars 1-3. As a marker, the right 8 has a tiny die chip inside the lower loop.
The die is paired only with reverse die a, but the die gouge is very different from others and aids in the identification of the VAM.

Die Crack Characteristics
Obverse Die 28 is paired with reverse die a to produce VAM 42. We have only two examples of VAM 42 and both are below Mint State.
This example is the AU 58 coin and shows no cracks or breaks. Neither does it have the Spike in 8 feature.
Neither of the coins exhibit any signs of die cracks or breaks.
We do not have an example of VAM 42, but we will post pictures when it is acquired.
