Comments:  The obverse of this coin is obviously heavily toned, making the grade a little difficult to ascertain.  However, the reverse is clear and speaks to a well struck coin that is a solid Mint Sate 63 if not a little higher.

Speculative History

We believe that the limited color palate in this coin points to early cycle bag toning.  Given the New Orleans Mint with heat and humidity this coin could have easily lived in the basement for years.

Stages and Colors

The coin first became exposed in the lower left at about eight o'clock.  It is least toned in the upper right at about two o'clock.  The powder blue speaks to the beginning and the dull gray and black speak to the end.

There are patches with some bright yellow, magenta, and perhaps royal blue.  For bag toned coins this is a very nice example.
