Speculative History
We would hypothesize that this coin was places in a box or a drawer where the obverse came into direct contact with a cloth containing sulfur. The lack of color on the reverse, and the completeness of the toning on the obverse almost demand this type explanation.
Stages and Colors
The dominant color on the coin is blue-magenta which is the last stage of the second cycle. This color so dominates the coin that it is somewhat difficult to focus on the others. But on close examination we see some yellows and cyan, both colors that would precede the magenta.
To our eye this is not an attractive coin because of the almost monochromatic look. But this is an excellent coin to study.
