Die/VAM Matrix
VAM 26A - Doubled 18, Clashed Obverse us is a pairing of Obverse Die 15 with Reverse Die a. Obverse Die 15 is associated with VAMs 26, 26A, and 51. VAM 26A has proven to be quite common and as of November 2021 we have fifty-two examples ranging from AU50 to MS65.
The obverse die appears to precede VAM 26 since there is less loss of detail in the devices. There is a single die crack at about 9 o'clock on the obverse die. On the reverse die there are several cracks toward the rim and these circle the die from about twelve o'clock to 10 o'clock.
This is also a favorite clashed variety with a lot of clash detail, including the beard under the eagle's neck and head area.
Die cracks are shown in green and die breaks in red. Click on any image for a larger view.
