Comments:  This coin might be overrated and should have received one grade lower.  The obverse is more attractive from a distance and shows a lot of scratches.  The reverse of the coin saves the day and looks to be more of a mint state coin.

 

The 1A VAM is somewhat tough because so many 1881-O coins have a spike in the first 8.  You almost have to eliminate every other possibility and then fall back into this category.

 

One fun thing about this coin is that it is an 1881-O in an 1881-S PCGS holder.  Even PCGS makes mistakes.
