Comments:  VAM 27 coins have been difficult to come by in decent grades.  We would probably rate this one as an AU 55, but the fields show some sign of reflectivity.  Before leaving the Mint this was probably a PL or DMPL coin.

 

The double ear is easily read making this one of the easier VAMs to identify.  The California Designation on the label identifies it as a coin from the collection of Lloyd Gabbert, a well known west coast collector.
