VAM: 40.2 - Doubled Ear Inside & Bottom, Die Gouges Inner Wing

Comments:  The inner wing die gouges are easily identified on this coin since it is in just about a pristine state.  A little confusion on this coin comes from the die state.

 

On the reverse faint signs of a clash are visible above the eagle's right wing and the right wreath.  On both the obverse and reverse there are serious die cracks that are starting to encircle the die, and there is some clear over-polishing.

 

So in one coin we have the juxtaposition of a failing die coupled with a well struck and almost pristine surfaces.
