Catalog Number: 7128
Serial Number: 30730203
Grade: Mint State 64
VAM: 26A - Doubled 18, Clashed Obverse us
VSS Number: None Issued
Comments: Although the clashes are difficult to see in our images, the clashes on both the obverse and reverse are easily identified with the coin in hand. This coin has a lot of MS 64 traits with nice fields and few bag marks.
VAM 26A is easily identified because of the clashed hair above and below the eagle's head. This is a unique clash in the 1881-O series.
The toning is very attractive and iridescent on both the obverse and reverse. We did include it in our toned coin collection.
Speculative History
The color spectrum and iridescence on this coin make us believe it is bag toned. To us it looks like long exposure to moisture which would have been common for the New Orleans Mint.
Stages and Colors
The lighter colors, especially the pale blue and peach seem to match the color scheme for bag toned coins.
