Comments:  You can tell from the VAM title that there is a lot going on with a VAM 51.  Both the obverse and reverse have distinctive features.  On the obverse there is a double clash at the neck, and at this grade is is starting to soften and be less distinctive.  On higher grades the clash at the back of the cap and hair is distinctively double clashed, but not visible here.  The date doubling is more easily recognized.  On the reverse the doubled legend and wreath are also easily identified.

This coin is right for an AU 50 with appropriate wear.  The hair and higher features are starting to soften and blend.  Fortunately for this VAM the needed features ate lower in the relief and should be identifiable at even lower grades.
