Because the die has some additional polishing at the back of the hair the softening at this grade seems more pronounced.  The coin has a lot of wear and dings and is a borderline AU 50 in our opinion.  The fields on the obverse are particularly scarred.

VAM 35 is not difficult to identify since its two features will stand out, even at lower grades.  The most obvious is having the mint mark set left since there are few VAMs with the mint mark set this far left.

On the obverse the doubling of the first three numerals is easy to identify at higher grades.  But at this grade on a dirty coin you will need some help with magnification.  Helping with the identification on some coins is a long die crack that starts with the second left star and runs all the way across the bottom of the date.
