Comments:  This is a really nice VAM 5 with a solid strike.  The overall appearance of the coin is nice and the fields are nearly clear.  The VAM can be recognized from either side with the polished out hair curls on the obverse or the O/O mint mark on the reverse.

 

VAM 5 is not proving to be as rare as we might have thought, or it is so distinctive that we have a very easy time spotting it.  With the addition of this coin we had examples in eleven different grades and 23 coins in total.  We have little doubt that both of these numbers will expand.

 

We would have rated this coin up a notch or two if it were not for a few strong bag marks on the face.  In an earlier life this could have been a PL coin.
