VAM:  61 - Doubled 18, O Set Left

Comments:  The description of VAM 61 is pretty straightforward, but the number of features that define the VAM are many.  This is one of our discovery VAMs and we are always happy when more than one example materializes and we know the VAM is not a singularity.

When acquired this coin became our sixth VAM 61, so we now have a number of them for comparison.  As the title implies, VAM 61 does have the date doubling and mint mark offset.  The obverse die is shared with VAM 34A and the reverse die with VAM 54.  It is clashed, rusted, and has other die markers.

We might have given this coin a plus rating, although the discoloration does detract from the overall appearance.  The large bag mark to the left of the ear is a problem, but the rest of the obverse is in good shape.  The reverse is clear of any major dings.
