VAM: 3 - Doubled 18-1, O Set Left

 

Comments:  We like this coin because it is a survivor.  Many coins like this one we have seen classified as AU58 because the fields make the coin appear circulated.  But the cleanliness of the devices help this coin stay in Mint State.

 

With VAM 3 the mint mark offset is easily seen, so that gets one to the date doubling.  We like to focus on the last 1 when looking for VAM 3 confirmation.  The doubling cuts across the lower horizontal bar in a unique manner that can be seen in our photographs.  Once you see that doubling and couple it with the mint mark offset you know what you have.
