Comments:  This is what we think an AU 55 or even down to an AU 50 coin looks like.  The circulated status, wear, and dirt clearly place it in that range.  We probably would have put this one down at an AU 53 because of the lack of eye appeal.

 

VAM 61 can be a little tricky to identify.  The clash at the mouth is perhaps the first thing you notice.  But the excessive pitting on both sides as well as the nick clash are also identifiers.  The mint mark is obscured by dirt so it cannot be used.
