VAM:  43 - Doubled Left 8 & Phrygian Cap, Die Gouge DOL

Comments:  There are a limited number of VAMs with the identified die gouge through the DOL in DOLLAR on the reverse.  The VAM 43 separates itself from the others by the obverse doubling.  VAM 43 has not been plentiful and this was our highest graded and first mint state coin when acquired.

 

This is a good clean MS 63 and we would place it near the upper end of the grade.  The abrasions on the cheek are not attractive, but also not deep.  The fields are clean for the grade.
