Obverse - The placement of the date is in the normal position with regard to distance between the first 1 and the bust point.

 

Reverse - Normal die with a tall oval medium II O mint mark that is centered and upright.

 

Other Characteristics

It may seem strange to identify a coin with no characteristics as a VAM, but it is logical since you need a way to classify normal state coins.  So VAM 1 is always the coin as intended to be struck.
